with Jayne Farrin

Senior College membership required.
Oct 15 – The Water Keeper by Charles Martin. Murphy Shepherd is a man with many secrets. He lives alone on an island, tending the grounds of a church with no parishioners, and he has dedicated his life to rescuing those in peril. But as he mourns the loss of his mentor and friend, Murph himself may be more lost than he realizes.
Nov 19 – Death of a Duchess by Nellie H. Steele. Lenora, a lonely orphan with a mysterious gift, has resigned herself to a life of solitude. A surprise proposal from a Scottish duke brightens her prospects, but the offer comes with a dark request. She must use her ability to communicate with the dead to investigate the mystery behind the duke’s first wife’s suicide.
Dec 17 – The Tattered Cover by Ellery Adams. As the residents of Miracle Springs, North Carolina, select their costumes, plan parties, and get excited for a night of tricks or treats, Nora joins in on the festivities by hosting medium memoirist Lara Luz at the bookstore. Charismatic and compelling, Lara mesmerizes the audience with her life story. Struck by a bolt of lightning as a child, she was pronounced dead only to be resurrected with the ability to connect with those on the other side.
Jan 21 – At Midnight Comes the Cry by Julia Spencer Fleming. It’s Christmas time in Millers Kill, and Reverend Clare Fergusson and her husband Russ van Alstyne - newly resigned from his position as chief of police – plan to enjoy it with their baby boy. On their list: visiting Santa, decorating the tree, and attending the church Christmas pageant. But when a beloved holiday parade is crashed by white supremacists, Clare and Russ find themselves sucked into a parallel world of militias, machinations, and murder.
Shabby Chic Craft – Upcycling the Old Junk Drawer
with Lynn Craig

Senior College membership required.
Turning everyday items (old, new, broken, vintage, scraps) into upcycled crafts, gifts, art, wooden signs, and do-it-yourself projects. We will provide kits and goody boxes you can also dig through, jewelry pins, fabric, ribbon, glass items such as bottles, candle holders, picture frames, stickers, beads, paper, et cetera. We encourage others to put on their thinking caps for completed items, one or many. At the end of this project, we are hoping everyone has something to take home for their own keepsakes or a gifting project for either Halloween or Christmas. You can be as masculine or feminine as you would like with your project as this is for men and women, so keep that in mind if you bring in any of your own items to work with. We will be bringing glue guns but also other items for those who are not familiar with the hot glue process. Any actual sewing will be at your own discretion and at home, but prepared scraps are fine to bring in. Lynn will also bring starter scraps. No hazardous chemicals. Thank you for helping to clean up your materials at the end of each session. Instructor: Lynn Craig – Polymer clay, resin, and stained-glass artist with strong background in mixed media and upcycling.

Memoir Writing: Your Life as Story
with Pam Crawford

Senior College membership is required.
Memoir writing is about honoring your life story. It's about recording life's layers - of love, loss, history, time, dreams, experiences, favorites, failures, hopes, shenanigans, and more. In this course, you will mostly be freewriting about your lived experiences, find your favorite stories, craft them purposefully, and perhaps share them in class. There may be pages you choose not to share, but please remember, bad ideas often make great stories! The subject matter of your work is up to you. Take advantage of the way life has surprised you, perplexed you, held you captive, set you free, made you laugh. A composition notebook will be provided; please bring your favorite writing implement. Instructor: Pam Crawford is a retired educator and long-term SAGE instructor. Picture by Mark Casey, Unsplash.com
The first two days will be in the Alumni Room. The second two days will be in the Allagash Room - just down the hall.
